A penny and the garbage disposal colliding in a horrible wrong turn.
02nd November 2008
Tonight, for reasons that were unknown to me at the time, the garbage disposal seized up. The usual method of trying to spin it in the opposite direction failed to free it.
Those of you who are familiar with my plumbing exploits know that I hate everything to do with the subject, but am surprisingly good at all related tasks, for an amateur.
I pulled the garbage disposal out from under the sink (that’s the easy part), and then pulled the rubber lip off of the top of it to discover a penny lodged in between the chopping disk and the wall of the disposal:

Not only was it a penny, it seemed to have been a very old, all copper penny. It is impossible to surmise the date that was printed, because the garbage disposal had defaced the coin entirely, and quite efficiently.
How did it end up in my sink? The answer will never be known. I thought my faithful readers might have a laugh at my expense in regard to my midnight plumbing job, though.
